Mobile mammography brings hospital technology directly to you, offering privacy, comfort and convenience.

A screening mammogram is an X-ray of the breast used to look for cancer in women who have no symptoms.  The breasts are compressed to obtain a clear picture. A Board Certified Radiologist reviews the x-ray images to see if there are any changes in the breast and the results are sent directly to the referring physician.

The goal of a screening mammogram is to find breast cancer when it’s too small to be felt by a woman or her doctor. Finding breast cancers early (before they have grown and spread) greatly improves a woman’s chance for successful treatment.

Every year over 200,000 American women are diagnosed with breast cancer. American Cancer Society screening guidelines for the early detection of breast cancer vary depending on a woman’s age and risk, and include mammography and clinical breast examination (CBE). Mammography is still the best way to find breast cancer early. It can find breast lumps when they are too small for a woman or her doctor to feel.

The American Cancer Society recommends:
Routine yearly screening starting at age 40
  • • Have a Clinical Breast Exam (CBE) at least every three years if you’re in your
    20’s or 30’s and once a year if you’re 40 or older.
  • • Breast Self-Exam (BSE) is an option for women starting in their 20’s
  • • Report any changes in your breasts to a doctor or nurse right away

A digital mammogram differs from a film mammogram in that it uses a special detector to capture and convert x-ray energy into a digital image giving the radiologist the advantage and ability to manipulate the image electronically.

The technologist can evaluate the quality of the images as they are taken. That means patients spend less time in the exam room and rarely need to return for repeat images due to under or over exposure. Brightness, darkness, or contrast can be adjusted and sections of an image can be magnified after the mammogram is complete making it easier to see subtle differences between tissues.
